Ford Focus Electric Goes Green(er) for 2018

Ford fell behind in the EV world, as its Focus Electric was stuck at 76 miles of range as of 2016 while the rest of the segment was pushing toward 200 miles. The automaker closed this gap in 2017 when it installed a new 33.5-kWh battery in 2017 – a 40% increase from 2016 – that increased the range to 115 miles. What’s in store for 2018? Well, the Focus Electric is set to get even greener!

Unfortunately, by “greener” I do not mean it’s range is any larger. Instead, Ford has added a new color option to the 2018 Focus Electric known as Outrageous Green Metallic. Ford pulled inspiration for this color from nature and renewal – two things EV buyers love. And it knows this bold color will be a success due to its similarity of Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year: Greenery.

Other than this new hue, the 2018 Focus Electric will be virtually identical to the current model. This includes its standard DC fast charge that allows for up to 75 miles on just 30 minutes of charging on a 150-amp charger. It can also charge on a 120- or 240-volt system. All told, this adds up to respectable EPA ratings of 118 mpg-e city, 96 highway, and 107 combined.

Pricing and the release date for the 2018 Focus Electric remain unknown. Stay tuned for updates.
