Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar Details Emerge

We’re getting plenty of details about the upcoming Mercedes-AMG hypercar, which has the ominous codename Project One. During the Geneva show, the automaker used its media event to build excitement about this mystery vehicle.

Aside from the teaser image above, Mercedes-AMG revealed it will indeed be electrified, the first of many models that will be hybrids. That’s one step closer to the brand making a fully-electric vehicle.

Calling Project One a hypercar is definitely accurate, because Mercedes-AMG brass has already confirmed the Formula One-sourced engine will pump out at the minimum 1,000 horsepower. Now, we know it’ll a be a through-the-road hybrid. In other words, the electric motors won’t be mechanically connected to the gas engine. More specifically, two electric motors will be attached to the front axle, while the engine sits midship, powering the rear axle. This setup will allow for all-wheel drive, but not in the traditional sense.

This setup sounds impressive, but it’ll be costly. Not only will the hypercar come at a steep price, the engine will need at least fairly extensive work every 31,000.

Mercedes-AMG announced a full reveal of the new hypercar is coming this September in Frankfurt.
