Though it was far from outdated, Mercedes-Benz decided it was time to rework the appearance of the GLA-Class. And we got a look at this new compact crossover at the 20117 Detroit Auto Show.

While the general silhouette of the GLA remains virtually unchanged, the smaller details have changed. Up front, you’ll notice a new bumper with rounded fog lights, a new grille and updated LED headlights. The A-pillars are also feature a low step and reworked geometry for better airflow. Also chipping in to help aerodynamics are restyled side-view mirror caps.

The rear end boasts an optimized spoiler, reshaped taillights and side rear spoilers for enhanced aerodynamics, too.

There are a few changes inside, but they are a bit tougher to spot. Among the changes are a new free-standing 8-inch touchscreen, red gauge needles, new chrome highlights on seat-adjustment buttons, stronger accents on the HVAC vents and a chrome surround on the center console.

Under its hood, the base GLA250 features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Despite all the other changes, this is actually a carryover from last year. Those hunting for the AMG GLA45 are treated to the same 375 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque as before.

Speaking of the GLA45, it pulls in many of the same modifications as the base GLA250, but tweaked for this performance model. Some mild differences from the GLA250 include the new rear diffuser and the silver chrome trim.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class will hit U.S. showrooms in the summer of this year. More details will come as we near its launch.
