Nissan Shrinks the Rogue and Slaps on the “Sport” Badge
Since its complete redesign, the Nissan Rogue has been pretty hot, as it came in third in overall sales last year. Despite its popularity, Nissan believes there is a segment just under the compact Rogue that it needs to fill. With that comes the new Rogue Sport.
Pay not mind to its name, as this is not a really a sportier side of the Rogue. Instead, it’s little more than a smaller model aimed at tiny crossovers like the Honda HR-V and Fiat 500X. The Rogue Sport measures 12.1 inches shorter than the base Rogue and has a 2.3-inch-shorter wheelbase, putting these measurements at 172.4 inches and 104.2 inches, respectively.
Even with its tiny stature, the Rogue Sport can still haul up to 61.1 cubic feet of cargo with the second-row seats folded. Additionally, its available Divide-N-Hide cargo system makes hauling easier.
Available features on this small people hauler aren’t lacking either. It has an available All-Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, intelligent cruise and rear cross-traffic alert.
Powering this smaller Rogue is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 141 horsepower mated to a continuously variable transmission, making it 29-horsepower less powerful relative to the standard Rogue. That said, I bet we’ll see better fuel economy than Rogue’s up to 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.
Pricing isn’t available yet, but I assume it’ll fall a few grand under the base Rogue, which starts from $23,820. The Rogue Sport will hit showrooms in the spring of 2017.
