We reported before that Tesla will reveal the Model 3 in March, and now we have a solid date. Multiple sources have confirmed that the budget-friendly EV will be unveiled in one form or another on March 31 in Los Angeles.

The automaker has been selecting some lucky Tesla owners to attend the Model 3 unveiling. These people used the Referral Program, getting their friends, family members and others to buy Teslas, scoring tickets to the event. It’s a nice way to show some appreciation for the people who have helped the company make it this far.

It’s already been confirmed that the Model 3 will go for $35,000 before any government incentives. That makes it by far more affordable than the Model S. Range will be over 200 miles.

There’s no emphasizing too much that the Model 3 will be incredibly critical to the future success of Tesla. If it can throw down huge sales numbers, the future of Tesla will look pretty rosy. If the Model 3 falls flat, Tesla could be doomed. That said, all indications point to the first of the two scenarios, but we’ll see how this unveiling goes.

A member of the Tesla Motors Club forum claims that he has an inside connection at Tesla and some exclusive details about the Model 3, plus a surprise. Supposedly the car will look like a smaller Model S, which is what people have been predicting for some time. The general consensus is it will be close to the size of the Audi A4. Luxury amenities like leather upholstery will be nonexistent to help make the vehicle affordable.

The forum member also claims that the low price will be made possible by the Gigafactory in Nevada and its massive economy of scale. Elon Musk has said that the battery factory will be absolutely essential to making the Model 3 work, so that’s not shocking.

Supposedly a budget-oriented and smaller version of the Model X will also be unveiled on March 31, something that’s also been speculated about. It would be called the Model Y, making it so Tesla’s lineup spells “S3XY.” Tesla has vehemently denied this rumor, but soon enough we’ll all know the truth.
