What can you buy a rich billionaire who has everything? Soon enough, the answer will be a Bentley SUV, unless that billionaire gets in line to buy one before you do. Excitement is continuing to build for the yet-named Bentley sport utility model, which so far has not been fully revealed in any form.
The British luxury brand recently teased the new model with a cryptic video that was inspired at least to an extent by the latest Tron movie and maybe even the cartoons. The entire thing is done in black and white, because nothing screams “sophistication” quite like black and white. Only portions of the upcoming model are shown as they appear and disappear on the screen in a way that makes much of the interior a humongous mystery.
Fortunately for those who want to drool at a vehicle they will never own, the exterior of the nameless SUV is much more visible in the video. Bentley already gave everyone a fairly clear look at the model’s new mug, which borrows the headlights from the Continental GT and the front grille from the Mulsanne, giving the SUV a distinctly Bentley look. The taillights are also at least fairly inspired by those on the Continental. The video does give a fairly good look at some rather large five-spoke wheels that likely won’t come as spinners, unless someone orders bespoke versions. The rear roofline has a sudden slope to it as well, giving the SUV a sportier look, at least from what can be deciphered by the new video.
Who will drive an SUV that will undoubtedly be incredibly heavy, considering how bloated Bentley’s sedans and coupes are? Whoever the lucky future owners will be, they will have to wait until 2016 when the model is scheduled to launch, with a hybrid plug-in version launching in 2017.
