The World Loves The Ford Mustang
The Ford Mustang has claimed an envious position as the top sports car in the entire world. This, of course, will only make Mopar and Chevy fans furious as they come up with excuses, but the numbers don’t lie.
When most people think of the Mustang, they immediately think of ‘Murica, apple pie and baseball. Maybe that fact, coupled with a supply famine in certain areas of the world, might have actually fueled strong sales. IHS Automotive says that for the first half of 2015, the Mustang beat out all other sports cars around the globe, with 76,124 registrations during that time.
People seem to really love the Mustang in the UK, Australia, China and New Zealand.
Even more interesting, women are at least partially responsible for the Mustang’s sales surge. In total, sales to female buyers has risen 40 percent in comparison to the numbers from 2014. The car also claimed 36 percent of the female sports car market. While some fans of rival vehicles might mock such an accomplishment, netting more sales from women will allow Ford to invest more into its pony car.
Unsurprisingly, Automotive News reports that most women purchase the EcoBoost version of the Mustang. The fact that rivals don’t yet have a similar product (read “four-banger muscle car”) could be why Ford has been able to draw in so many female car shoppers.
Women also gravitate to the drop-top version of the Mustang just a little more than men. About 15 percent of female Mustang buyers went with convertibles, versus about 13 percent of males.
Of course, when the sixth generation of the Chevy Camaro has been in the market for a while, the current Mustang could find that it’s finally met a worthy adversary when it comes to global sales.
