In a move that’s truly shocking, Jeep has decided to finally make the Compass look like an actual Jeep! Previously, the crossover looked soft and drove the same way. It cheapened the Jeep brand big time, but it looks like things might be taking a turn for the better.

Jeep revealed the new Compass recently, using Brazil as the backdrop for the unveiling. No doubt, FCA expects to sell a lot of these things in the South American nation, which just loves off-roaders.

But that brings up an interesting question: will the new Jeep Compass actually be able to take on serious trails? Considering the Cherokee and Renegade in Trailhawk form can handle some fairly rugged terrain, the answer is probably so. Sure, it won’t be anything like the Wrangler, before any hardcore Jeep fans point that out, but it hopefully will be more hardcore than the RAV4 or CR-V.

We’ll find out at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November what the Jeep Compass has underneath its tougher physique. It’s pretty obvious Jeep’s designers used the Grand Cherokee as inspiration, and hopefully the engineers did as well. Already, not only is the exterior better, but the interior doesn’t look like it’s fully of flimsy, cheap plastic parts.
