Volkswagen Reveals Futuristic ID Concept
To help you forget all about Dieselgate, Volkswagen has rolled out another all-electric concept car, called the I.D.
Volkswagen says the I.D. will go to market in 2020, but don’t expect it to look anything like this concept. Remember the original Chevy Volt concept? It could be a drastic change like that. Still, the I.D. looks pretty cool, once again taking quite a few design themes from the last Tron movie.
This will be the first vehicle based on VW’s Modular Electric Drive kit, lovingly called MEB. The electric motor kicks out 168 horsepower, so the VW I.D. will be more of a commuter vehicle. Range is estimated at 373 miles, which actually is pretty impressive, if Volkswagen delivers.
When it comes to the interior, it also looks like a Tron set piece, thanks to an Open Space design language. Most notable is the steering wheel, which can retract fully so everyone can sit around and let the car have all the fun of dealing with rush hour.
