The Tesla Model X windshield is finally getting a fix that’ll help drivers not be blinded by the sun. Instead of buying everyone some nice Ray Bans, the company instead will be offering a removable mesh that goes along the top of the glass.

Pictures don’t really do it justice, because the windshield is simply massive. It’s like sitting in a helicopter cockpit, only there’s no real reason you need that kind of range of upward view like you do when piloting an aircraft.

Really, the Model X is all about flash. It’s loaded with all kinds of features that’re supposed to wow the neighbors or other parents in the school drop-off line, but their practicality are questionable.

The mesh that Tesla’s shipping to Model X owners is a curiously analog fix for a vehicle that’s pretty technologically advanced. Other issues have plagued the SUV, especially problems with the falcon wing doors not responding when owners try to open them, and the front doors knocking down small children and the elderly (semi-joking there).

Hopefully Tesla engineers are hard at work on a better fix, because a mesh screen you can manually roll up when you don’t want to use it is pretty disappointing.

Right now, you can feel pretty smug about not having lined up to buy the Model X. of course, you probably couldn’t have afforded to purchase one anyway, but don’t let that stop you.
