Back in 2015 we reported on how a lot of the fun came to an end at the Nurburgring. During a race, a Nissan GT-R went airborne and killed a spectator. The response was to slap some speed limits up for different parts of the track. That was a problem for automakers, because they use the ‘Ring to brag about how fast their cars are.

Now those speed limits are finally gone. Management installed some safety improvements to keep an accident like the one from happening again. There are new metal fences. Some sections of the Schewdenkreuz are now closed to foot traffic. FIA and the German Motor Sport Association have both given their approval of the changes.

The big takeaway here is that there are no speed limits. That means more aggressive racing on the track, and more regular drivers wrecking out when it’s open to the public. Automakers will start testing out different performance models, and probably some SUVs on the thing, bragging about their best lap time. Fanboys can slap a sticker of the ‘Ring on their V-6 Mustang. Life will continue like normal and everyone can be happy again.
