We Finally Have Seen The Tesla Model 3

After much hype and fake leaked images spread online, we’ve finally seen the Tesla Model 3. After the Model X, I was a little concerned about the styling direction Tesla might be taking, but this new EV is actually pretty good-looking.

Many juicy tidbits were thrown out by Elon Musk during the reveal. Among them: the base Model 3 will do 0 to 60 mph in under 6 seconds (expect faster from other versions), range will be at least 215 miles, and five adults can fit in it comfortably. On that last item, the dash was compressed for more interior space, so the driver and front passenger sit further forward than in other cars.

As for hauling stuff, Musk says a 7-foot surf board will fit in the Model 3. The frunk (front trunk) and trunk both should be pretty big.

Supercharging will come standard, something a lot of people (myself included) doubted would be included. To help with the huge wave of Model 3s, Tesla is doubling the number of Superchargers worldwide by the end of 2017. It will also double the number of stores by then.

During the reveal, Musk said that over 115,000 orders for the Model 3 had been received. No doubt more people got online to order the car after seeing it, so that number will continue to climb. Anyone can admit that’s impressive for such a little automaker.

Musk says he’s “fairly confident” the Model 3 will be ready by the end of 2017. We’ll see.
