The Next-Gen M5 Gets Drifty on the Nürburgring
Ah, the good ol’ Nürburgring. The home of all things automotive insanity; where turbos spool freely and cylinders pump out horsepowers as far as the eye can see. Today, the twisting track in Nürburg, Germany plays host to a rig we’ve all been salivating over as of late: the 2018 BMW M5.
The midsize M made its debut at the end of spy photographers’ telephoto lenses in recent months, but today its clears its throat and stretches its vulcanized rubber on the famed German track. Unfortunately, the sounds from its angry V-8 engine are overpowered by the tires shrieking as the driver pushes them to the verge of retirement around each turn, but there is still plenty of good noise and action to whet our appetites.
The 2018 BMW M5 will reportedly have as many as 600 ponies beneath its hood to play around with, which would make the new model 40-horsepower stronger than the current generation. With great horsepower typically comes gobs of torque, which leads me to believe the 2018 fast 5 also should carry a good bit more than the 2016 model’s 500 pound-feet of twist.
Check out the video below to see the M5 do its 600-horsepower dance around the various twists of the Nürbugring.
