The S-Class is one hell of a luxuryrig, as it is one of the few cars on the road that manages to cleanly combine sportiness, luxuriousness, and aggressiveness. One issue it has had is the fact that it only comes with a V-8 engine, leaving buyers looking for a lower price and reduced fuel consumption out in the cold.

Just the other day, Mercedes finally decided to expand the S-Class Coupe’s lineup, giving these buyers a V-6 engine option. Ladies and gents, meet the all-new S400 4MATIC.

This new model rolls in with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine that produces a mighty 362 horsepower from 5,500 to 6,000 rpm and 369 pound-feet of twist from 1,400 rpm. This nasty V-6 gets the big coupe to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.6 seconds – one second slower than the S500 – and allows it to top out at 250 km/h (155 mph). Making this powertrain truly awesome is the fact that it comes standard with 4MATIC all-wheel drive that is fed by a 7G-TRONIC auto transmission.

As with most Mercedes models, the S400 is pretty well laid out. It comes standard with THERMOTRONIC auto climate control with dual zones, LED Intelligent Light System, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, COMMAND online multimedia system, AIRMATIC, Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC, and much more.

This new version of the S-Class hits dealer showrooms at a starting price of €99,960 ($109,276). AS of today, there are no plans to release this new entry-level S-Class in the U.S. Given it has some success in Europe, look for Mercedes to quickly ship it over here.
