Pricing Released for the 2016 Chevy Malibu Hybrid
Earlier this year, we learned that the new-generation Malibu would get a hybrid version, its first hybrid version since 2009. This addition would give the hot-selling Malibu yet another desirable model to help narrow the gap between it and the class-leading Accord. Today, we learned even more about this new midsize hybrid, including its base pricing.
According to Chevy’s presser, the 2016 Malibu LT Hybrid, which must be the base version of the electrified sedan, will start from $28,645. This puts it at a lower starting point than the Accord Hybrid, but a good bit higher than the $25,185 Fusion Hybrid.
Standard features on this model are pretty plentiful. They include 10 airbags, a MyLink audio system with a 7-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rearview camera, push-button start, and more. Available safety features are plentiful too, and they include lane-keep assist, pedestrian braking, low-speed front braking. Teen Driver is also available, which allows parents to monitor teens’ driving habits, like seatbelt use, speed, audio volume, etc.
Under the hood of the 2016 Malibu Hybrid lays a 1.8-liter four-cylinder EcoTec engine that pairs with a two-motor electric drive unit borrowed from the Volt to produce 182 horsepower. This powertrain is good for a respectable 48 mpg city, 45 mpg highway, and 47 mpg combined, which puts it between the Fusion Hybrid and Accord Hybrid.
The exact release date of the 2016 Malibu Hybrid remains uncertain, but we do know that it’ll arrive sometime in the spring of 2016. I am sure that there are more details to come out soon, like other trim levels, so keep it locked here for the latest updates.
