Behold The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43

While the GLC is a pretty good vehicle, if you must have a crossover, the new Mercedes-AMG version is much more interesting. The company just put the smack down on Audi and BMW, beating out the SQ5 and X3 with the new 367 horsepower GLC 43.

Nestled under the hood is a potent 3.0-liter V-6 biturbo engine, the same powerplant used in the C 43 models, plus the E 43 and SLC 43. Torque output is impressive in the crossover at a peak 383 lb.-ft. Acceleration is respectable at 4.9 seconds for 0 to 62 mph, while the top speed is capped off at 155 mph.

The engine is mated to the 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission, which is tuned for quicker shifts. It sends power to the wheels via the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. In other words, it should be good for hooning at all times of the year, even when there’s snow on the roads.

Other changes include upgraded brakes and a sport-tuned suspension, plus an air suspension with adaptive damping adjustment. The four-link front axle gained upgraded load-bearing joints and steering knuckles. That setup combines with a more negative camber for both axles, which hopefully will add some excitement that’s missing in the standard GLC.
The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 will be featured at the New York Auto Show. There’s no official word on pricing.
