Leaked Civic Hatchback Patent Images Shows That Much of the Concept’s Styling Carries Over
Honda has played it safe with the compact hatchback segment in recent years, leaving the Civic out of this up-an-coming segment in the U.S. until it is certain that its popularity is here to stay. Now, with the segment continuing to grow, the automaker has no choice but to release one in the new generation. Today, The snoops over at the CivicX forums have dug up what appear to be patent images for the upcoming Honda Civic hatchback.
One massive takeaway from these images, given they are the real deal, is the fact that the production model is very similar to the concept version. Of course, there are some minor changes, like the toned-down front and rear fascias and the lack of the center-mounted exhaust cannons. Chances are that the two bits that are not included in these patent images will make appearances on the Si or Type R models.
What these images do not show is whether the lime-green accents that graced the concept will make their way to production, or not. My gut—and logic—says that they will not.
Either way, just seeing this much of the well-received concept (potentially) making it to production is awesome.
We don’t know exactly when Honda plans to unveil its new Civic hatchback to American audiences, but it should be soon, so stay tuned.
