BMW Might Not Call Its New Roadster The Z5

You know that sports car platform BMW is developing along with Toyota? If you, like every normal freaking person on the planet, thought the new BMW roadster was going to be called the Z5, you might be dead wrong. I mean, after all, we had the Z3, then the Z4, so the only logical choice isn’t Z5, right?

If you didn’t follow that logic, it’s okay, because neither did I. Ludwig Willisch, the BMW of North America CEO, said in an interview with AutoGuide that the top secret spots car everyone knows about won’t be called the Z5. When AutoGuide pressured him for a name, he said it would be a Z model, or “probably Z4.”

Right.

Calling the new car the BMW Z4 won’t cause any confusion with the current roadster. No, none at all. Did this guy consult with guys at GM who decided on the Chevy Bolt name?

In the end, I don’t care what BMW calls this car. It could be the BMW Isletta, as long as it looks good, handles like a true sports car, and delivers on the much-rumored revolutionary tech.
