Top Cars of 2016 That Still Offer a Manual Gearbox
The automobile is constantly changing as new technology comes out and manufacturers spend millions of dollars perfect it. Things like the move from carburetors to fuel injection and manual ignition to computerized systems are examples of some of the huge changes that took some time to catch on.
Decades ago, the automatic transmission was for those who flat-out couldn’t or didn’t want to drive a manual-equipped car. For those who wanted the best performance, however, the manual was always the choice. In recent years, the manual transmission has been poached by advanced automatic transmissions that now deliver better performance than manual-equipped cars.
With this shift, manufacturers are quickly trimming the manual transmission from their lineups, and driving enthusiasts are finding it hard to find exciting cars with a manual option.
Today, Insider Car News takes a look at the most exciting cars of 2016 that still have a manual transmission available.
1. 2016 Chevrolet Camaro
The Camaro always has and seemingly always will have a manual transmission available and this continues as the entire 2016 Camaro lineup has a six-speed manual transmission available. This means you can get your cog-swapping fix with a 275-horsepower 2.0-liter, a 335-horse 3.5-liter V-6, or a 455-pony 6.2-liter V-8. Once more powerful models, like the Z/28 and ZL1 roll out, I fully expect them to adopt the standard manual gearbox.
