The hottest version of the Golf is coming to America, and Volkswagen is giving 500 lucky individuals the chance to preorder the car. Fans can get on vw.com/GolfR on January 8th to become one of the first people to own the 2015 Golf R, which is the most powerful version of the Golf that has ever been made.

Anyone who claims one of the limited models won’t be able to choose what comes with it. All 500 are identical and come with plenty of regular and special features. The body is painted Lapiz Blue Metallic, with 19-inch Cadiz aluminum-alloy wheels and summer performance tires completing the look. The car is also loaded with Bi-Xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, Park Distance Control, navigation, and the Fender Premium Audio System.

The turbocharged 2.0-liter EA888 TSI engine in the Golf R kicks out 292 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque, promising plenty of fun. The EPA estimates highway fuel economy at 30 mpg with the six-speed DSG tranny, which isn’t too shabby. VW says it can go from 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 155 mph, on the track of course. The car will set you back $39,090, plus the $820 destination and delivery charge.

Not only do the people who make it into the preorder program get the car, they also get a special watch, a keychain made of stainless steel and carbon fiber, and even a certificate that is VIN-specific and lets everyone know that your car is part of the exclusive group.

To reserve the car, a person needs to pony up $500 as a deposit. If you are too late to be part of the 500, you can still get on a wait list. When a person decides to go with an STI or Focus RS instead, the open slot will be given to the first person on the wait list.
