Surprise! Mercedes-AMG is promising something “fast.” Well, duh; I can’t think of anything with the AMG badge that isn’t fast. Clearly, whatever Mercedes-AMG is working on is special, as it released a 19-second video (below) just to tease this “fast” rig. So what is in the works in Affalterbach?
Well, the exhaust note in the video is clearly from a V-8 engine. More specifically, it sounds just like the 4.0-liter biturbo V-8 found in the new C63 Sedan and Mercedes-AMG GT. That helps us whittle the possibilities down a bit.
We are still waiting on the updated version of the C63 Coupe, and the timing of this video aligns with the expected reveal of the new C-Class Coupe at the Frankfurt show in September. However, I highly doubt Mercedes-AMG would create a video for this release.
The only other possibility that is obvious is a version of the GT that rests between the range-topping GT S and the track-only GT3. I have a feeling that this is almost certainly what we are hearing in this video.
Mercedes has been pretty open about the idea that it’s planning to create a more intense version of the GT — something like a road-ready GT3 sans 6.3-liter V-8. However, there has been a little debate as to what Mercedes-AMG will name this model.
The logical name would be the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, which is in line with Mercedes’ historical naming scheme. However, some reports claim that the German automaker will move away from the Black Series name with the new GT.
Thankfully, it appears as if this “fast” car isn’t too far off, so keep it locked here to find out what insane rig emits this raspy note.
