The automotive industry is always home to some entertaining rumors. One of the latest is that Tesla will reveal the Model 3 at the Geneva Motor Show, and plenty of automotive as well as other sites are spreading it around as though it were gospel truth.

The “evidence” cited is that Elon Musk, said before that the ever-important Model 3 would be unveiled in March. Anyone who sees the new vehicle and is interested, plus trusts Tesla will actually launch a car on time for a change, can at that point plunk down a deposit.

For those who don’t know, the Geneva Motor Show is in March, so that of course means the Model 3 will be unveiled in Switzerland, because that’s only logical, right?

This line of thought is taking quite the leap, because Tesla doesn’t really do much for auto shows. As AutoBlog points out, Tesla Motors Switzerland Gmbh will be at Geneva, but it will likely be to only drum up interest in the company’s existing vehicles. Add to that the fact that the Model S and Model X were both revealed at the automaker’s factory in Fremont, and there’s plenty of reasons to doubt the Model 3 will be breaking cover in Geneva.

Just because the Geneva Motor Show is in March doesn’t mean Tesla can’t reveal the Model 3 at a separate event, thousands of miles away. The Model 3 reveal could easily be slated for a different time of the month. The point is, the chances that Tesla will cart the Model 3 all the way to Switzerland to pull off the sheet are fairly low.

The Model 3 will likely be the most important vehicle Tesla has launched to-date, because at a target price of $35,000 the car is accessible to a much larger group of people, taking the brand more into the mainstream. Production hinges on the Gigafactory in Nevada being fully functional. If everything happens as scheduled, which with Tesla is never the case, expect the Model 3 to launch in the summer of 2017.
