BMW X7 Details Start Leaking
Even though BMW won’t confirm anything about the X7, it definitely is coming. The word on the street is that this new SAV (sport activity vehicle – really just an SUV) will arrive in 2018. Instead of just being a bloated X5, expect it to be something at least a little different.
This new, larger SUV is a critical model for BMW. Plenty of shoppers are willing to drop big bucks on full-size luxury sport utilities, which provide nice cushy profit margins for automakers. Considering that Mercedes has pulled ahead of BMW in the luxury market race, it’s time for the Bavarians to take some drastic measures to catch back up.
At least some of this information is coming from a credible source. AutoExpress was able to speak with BMW AG Sales and Marketing Director Ian Robertson, who confirmed a few broad points.
Robertson was also interviewed by Automotive News. The conversation involved the X7 as well, including some additional info. There will be two different versions of the full-size SUV: a standard offering with seven seats and a more upscale version with four seats and a “distinct look.” It’s entirely possible the higher-end X7 will cater more to the Chinese market, where many luxury vehicle owners have chauffeurs and extreme backseat luxury is a high priority.
