If you need just a couple of seats, some rubber to touch the road, and an engine to get it all moving, but want to pay as little as possible, there are a few cars to choose from. One of the cheapest modes of transportation has long been the Nissan Versa sedan. As we head into 2017, its position as one of the cheapest cars in the U.S. remains safe, but it also gains a new, more feature-filled optional package.

For the 2017 model year, the Versa Sedan’s lineup now includes a new SV Special Edition Package. This $500 option, which is available only with the SV trim level, adds 15-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 5-inch display audio system, SiriusXM, Bluetooth streaming audio, Hands-Free Text Messaging Assistant, a rearview camera, chrome accents on the front fascia, and a “Special Edition” emblem.

Also new for 2017 is a new center console design that includes repositioned USB ports, a secondary 12-volt power source, and new cup holders.

Other than these mild tweaks, all else remains unchanged for the 2017 Versa Sedan, including its 1.6-liter engine with 109 horsepower. With the optional continuously variable transmission, this tiny sedan delivers up to 39 mpg highway.
