Study: Performance Enthusiasts Prefer Trump Over Hillary

With the 2016 election in full swing, people have been analyzing this crazy race in many ways. One aspect few have even bothered with is how vehicle choice and preferences line up with how people view the candidates. Thanks to a study recently conducted by Autolist, gear heads seem to be more likely to lean toward Trump.
Autolist found that Hillary supporters most favor the Honda Civic and are more likely to drive Japanese brands like Toyota and Nissan. Trump fans go with the F-150 as their most common vehicle and tend to rely on domestic brands for their transportation. This lines up with quite a few stereotypes, so probably aren’t much of a surprise.
More interestingly, Autolist found voters planning to go with Donald Trump are 17 percent more likely to go with vehicles that have higher horsepower and torque ratings. About 30 percent of Hillary supporters surveyed said the availability of a hybrid powertrain was preferential, which could explain their favoring Japanese brands.
Even though 14 percent of respondents said they’re backing Gary Johnson, Autolist didn’t release any vehicle preference data for that group. Are they hybrid-heavy? Do they love to shred rubber? Would they be heavily into Jeeps and the rugged freedom they represent?
Autolist surveyed voters in all 50 states, getting about the same proportion of Republicans, Democrats and independents for what seems to be a pretty balanced survey.
