Report: VW Is The Only Cheater

Remember how VW was anxiously waiting for other automakers to get caught cheating on diesel emissions? Some were waiting for BMW, Mercedes and others to get busted. You know, because the standards set by the EPA and other regulators around the world are so unreasonable.

That never happened, and a new report out of none other than Germany concludes that Volkswagen is the only cheater. Regulators looked for defeat devices on vehicles from other companies, but nobody else used them.
This comes from a recent German daily newspaper, called Handelsblatt, report. It only makes VW look bad. Like really bad.
While it’s true that “irregularities” were found during on-road tests of other diesel vehicles, nothing pushed past the legal limit. If you don’t recall, the CO2 emissions from Volkswagen TDI models were multiple times higher than what’s allowed legally.
The German transport ministry, called the KBA, is going to release a full report on its findings in April, according to Handelsblatt. There’s no telling what other damning evidence is in there, but things aren’t looking good for VW.
In the past, Germany and the EU seemed to be going soft on Volkswagen. That might be changing, which is incredibly bad news for the company. Don’t expect VW to just disappear, but things inside the company should be changing even more than it already has. Considering the level of deceit Volkswagen practiced, that’s probably good news for everyone.
