2017 BMW 3 Series GT Features New Powerplants
The 3 Series GT is one of many niche fillers that Bimmer has released in recent years—it’s part sedan, part coupe, and part wagon. While many see this style as a tad funky, there is a small group of buyers who appreciate this do-everything-okay-but-nothing-great design. Today, BMW has announced the changes that the 3 Series GT will undergo for the 2017 model year.
The changes to the body are mild, but noticeable, as the headlights get a light restyle and the addition of standard LED technology—the fog lights also gain standard LED technology. Around back, the taillights also gain standard LED tech and all-new graphics, and the bumper gets a revised look.
Inside, BMW adds new chrome accents around the controls, new wood treatments, updated color options, and new leather options. These updates combine with the GT’s 2.32-inch-higher seat height and up to 56.5 cubic feet of cargo room to make this the perfect car for buyers who just can’t decide whether they want a sedan or crossover.
The 3 Series GT will also undergo a few changes under its hood for the new model year. The European market will see a massive 18 engine options, but here in the U.S., we’ll see only two of these powerplants. The base model will be the 330i, which replaces the old 328i, and it will come with a 2.0-liter the cranks out 252 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque—increases of 18 horsepower and 3 pound-feet. The new 340i, which replaces the 330i, will roll in with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder that pumps out 326 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque—increases of 26 ponies and 32 pound-feet.
There is no mention of when the 2017 3 Series GT will hit showrooms, but it shouldn’t be too long from now. We’ll bring you updates as they become available.
