The V-6 Mustang will be killed by Ford in 2018, when the pony car gets a refresh. If that’s a shock, you should’ve seen it coming. After all, check out the specs for the V-6 versus the EcoBoost – they’re incredibly close. Ford’s been trying to get us used to having a turbocharged four-banger instead of the V-6, and the transition is almost complete.

Some auto news sites are citing a Mustang forum post about how a dealer got a glimpse at the order list for 2018 Mustangs, and couldn’t find the V-6 engine anywhere. Even more evidence is sitting under everyone’s noses on the Ford website right now. Try building a Mustang and choose the V-6, then try to add upgrades. Do the same with the EcoBoost engine. You’ll find there are way more options with the EcoBoost, because Ford’s trying to steer people that way.

I won’t lie, as long as the 5.0-liter V-8 for the Mustang GT is still around, and we have the GT350’s flat-plane crank V-8, I’m good. Maybe someone is lamenting the V-6’s death, but it’s not me.
