Germany might be the birthplace of the automobile, but its modern citizens really love the all-American Ford Mustang. The Mustang claimed the best-selling sports car spot in Germany for March, shocking quite a few people.

To be fair, it was a close contest. The second-place position went to the Porsche 911, which scooped up 752 sales versus 780 for the Mustang. Audi TT racked up 708 unit sales for the month, landing in third place.

Even in German, the 911 isn’t exactly cheap. The TT, on the other hand, is fairly affordable, as is the Mustang. But the American muscle car just lays it on with loads of power, and who can resist that?

While March was a standout month for the Ford Mustang, the car isn’t doing too shabby overall. The Audi TT is the top sports car so far for 2016, while the Mustang is firmly in the second position. The Porsche 911 isn’t far behind in third place.

As the year progresses and the fame of the pony car spreads, more Germans might swallow their national pride and indulge in some exotic American muscle.
