Skip the Line; Order Your Ford GT Digitally

GT ConfigureThe wait is almost over for Ford GT lovers of the world, as the American supercar’s launch is near. It is so near, in fact, that Ford has opened up the order books for the latest iteration of the GT supercar. The only issue is, as we all know, Ford is going to hand pick who is eligible to own one of the 500 units produced over the next two years.

In order to get consideration, prospective buyers must first fill out an application that digs a bit into your personal stuff, like what Ford cars you’ve owned, what your relationship with Ford is, and whether you are a buy-and-store or buy-and-drive sort of collector. From my understanding, Ford is seeking the buy-and-drive (AKA the only right way to do it) collector, as it doesn’t want the GT to be a showroom queen.

GT Configured 3I didn’t finish my application because, well, I cannot afford the GT’s mid-$400,000s starting price nor do I need Ford bombarding me with calls regarding it, so I cannot comment on what happens after submitting the application. However, the site mentions that it is accepting applications through 3:59 a.m. GMT on May 12th, 2016 and deliveries will kick off in the summer of 2016.

Likely the coolest part of the entire process is configuring your own GT, which I spent a few minutes doing—the images you see here are all of my custom-configured rig. It is coated in matte black with gloss-black stripes, finishers and carbon-fiber wheels for slight contrast, and red calipers for that added pop. Inside, I went with the “Launch Control” theme which is black with orange accents.
