Tesla Reveals Controversial 2016 Model S
Now that the Model 3 has been revealed in prototype form, Tesla has released updates for the 2016 Model S. Most notable is the change to the nose.
Gone is the fake grille up front, a move people seem to either love or hate. It’s controversial, because the design is similar to the Model X. Not everyone is a fan of the look.
The headlights are restyled as well, which isn’t nearly as offensive of a change.
Other differences that go deeper than the car’s skin. One of the biggest is an upgraded onboard charger. It gets a bump from 40 to 48 amps, which means faster charging in certain situations. Two new interior trim options have been added: Figured Ash Wood Décor and Dark Ash Wood Décor. A HEPA air filtration system will be optional, like on the Model X.
All of this doesn’t come for free. Tesla announced that each version of the Model S will be $1,500 more expensive. Still, that seems to be a pretty good deal for anyone who can afford it.
You should know these changes only apply to some 2016 models. Instead of following industry conventions, Tesla is making the transition with vehicles made after the early part of April.
