Volkswagen Creates Denim Beetle Convertible

Volkswagen has finally created a car that’s perfect for people like Jay Leno, who just can’t get enough denim in their daily lives. The 2016 Beetle Convertible 1.8 T Denim is a limited-edition model that actually is supposed to hearken back to the Jeans Bug from the ’70s, at least according to VW.

One could accuse Volkswagen of defrauding the public yet again, because the Beetle Convertible Denim doesn’t actually contain any real denim. The convertible top, which looks like it could be made of the same material as jeans, is actually made from an unspecified new “textured fabric” VW says just looks like the real thing. Same goes for the light-blue upholstery, which is accented by dark blue leatherette and white piping. There are even pockets on the back of the front seats that are designed to look like the back pockets on a pair of jeans, complete with small red tabs that feature the Beetle name. The whole car just oozes fake cuteness.

This is a disturbing turn of events, considering that this new Beetle is supposed to pay tribute to the car’s past. The disappointing thing is that past Jeans Beetles featured actual denim, which only makes sense. Instead of following with tradition, Volkswagen decided to give this new limited edition model a dash that’s light blue and silver.
With all of the public image problems that Volkswagen is facing lately, thanks to its efforts to defraud multiple governments and consumers throughout the world as part of the Dieselgate scandal, this isn’t what it needs to turn things around. After all, some could construe this as yet another attempt at deceiving the public.

For just $25,995 and a destination fee of $820 you will be able to enjoy the retro goodness of this limed edition Beetle. Volkswagen’s calling it a “value model” because it’s packed with things consumers presumably will love. Production is being capped at just 2,000 cars in the United States, so you better get your financing ready ahead of time.
