Chinese EV Has A Claimed 1,243-Mile Range
If you haven’t heard of the Chinese automaker Techrules, you’ll be shocked to learn about its electric supercar. The GT96 might not be a battery-electric vehicle, but it technically is driven by an electric motor. And it has a claimed 1,243-mile range, which is impressive.
Instead of using an array of lithium-ion batteries, the GT96 has a charging system fueled by biogas or natural gas. It would be somewhat similar to how the onboard gasoline engine on the Chevy Volt can fire up and extend range.
Some people call this cheating. Considering that peak output is supposed to be 1,030 horsepower and 6,372 lb.-ft. of torque, insane might be a better word. Oh, and the Techrules GT96 is supposed to weigh only 2,200 pounds.
If you think this all sounds too good to be true, you’re not alone. Plenty of people think the Techrules’ claims are outright lies, especially since the tech seems to blow away anything Tesla, BMW or GM have been able to churn out. It wouldn’t be the first snake oil supercar to be teased, with many notable examples from the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
So far, there’s no timeline for when the GT96 will hit the market.
