The Jannarelly Design-1 is a Modern Take on Yesteryear’s Race Cars
New automakers pop up almost daily with wild sketches that never come to fruition, so I often tend to just ignore them. However, a new automaker popped up today that I simply cannot ignore. I am talking about the creation that resulted from the collaboration of Anthony Jannarelly, designer of W Motors’ Supercars and Frederic Juillot, owner of Equation Composite. The result is a company named Jannarelly, and its first car, the Design-1.
For now, the Design-1 is just a computer mockup and a general idea of a powertrain, but dayum, this thing looks sweet. Image if AC had kept modernizing its Cobra, and this is probably what you’d expect from it by 2015. From certain angles, this rig is stunningly retro, but then you take a peek from another angle and find it has ques of a modern supercar. Color me impressed thus far…
The body, which will be made mostly of carbon fiber and fiberglass, will be pretty customizable. Buyers can customize the rear end, swap out body panels, change the aero bits, add or delete the windshield, and more. This will help buyers create cars that look like no one else’s on the road.
Under the hood of the Design-1 will be a mid-rear-mounted V-6 DOHC 24-valve engine. There is no mention of whether it will be turbocharged, supercharged or naturally aspirated, nor is there any mention of this engine’s output. However, given the Ford GT and Nissan GT-R have proven that V-6 engines have more potential than ever before, I suspect we’ll see forced induction and at least 400 horsepower.
The first Design-1 prototype is scheduled to debut in Dubai in February 2016, and the company plans to sell this new car – given it actually makes it to production – in Europe and the U.S. Stay tuned for more details.
