When Volvo revealed its 2016 XC90 to the world, we all knew it would end up being a smashing success. Then when it announced that it would offer 1,927 First Edition models with all the bells and whistles, bets were made as to how quickly it would sell out.

Volvo opened the ordering books for the XC90 First Edition on Wednesday, September 3, and in just 47 hours every single model was sold out. The majority of the stock was gone within an hour of Volvo opening up the online reservation system, and at its fastest pace, XC90s were selling at a pace of seven cars per minute.

For their persistence and fast-clicking fingers, buyers of the new XC90 First Edition will receive the latest and greatest Volvo has to offer along with an Onyx Black exterior, 21-inch wheels in an eight-spoke patterns, Nappa leather seating, walnut inlays on the charcoal leather dash, a tablet-like touchscreen, and a Bowers & Wilkens audio system with a 1,400-watt amp and 19 speakers.

Buyers could choose either a 320-horsepower, turbocharged and supercharged gasoline engine or a 225-horsepower diesel engine for their XC90 First Edition. Both engines come paired with an eight-speed auto transmission.

Seeing special-edition cars sell out within hours isn’t too rare, but considering the fact that Volvos haven’t been the most desirable cars in recent years, it’s actually rather impressive. Hopefully the standard 2016 XC90 shares the same success, giving Volvo the profits is needs to continue its brand overhaul that includes a complete restructuring of its naming system.

Believe it or not, it’s actually the 2016 Model that sold out. People ordered all 1927 of the limited First Edition models.
