Audi Shows Off its Restyled A4 Allroad
In 2013, Audi brought its A4 Allroad to the U.S. under the simplified Allroad name (sans A4). Now, with the 2017 model year rolling in, Audi has revealed a handful of details surrounding the new Allroad, including an updated look, new engines, and an increased ride height.
From the outside, the changes to the Allroad are obvious. Starting up front, you’ll notice that Audi added in new jagged headlights, a larger and bolder Singleframe grille, a redesigned front chin spoiler, and new fog light surrounds. Around back, there are new taillights that match the redesigned headlights, a new rear diffuser, an updated bumper, and repositioned exhaust outlets.
Inside, Audi performed even more updates. In here, there is a new MMI system with a tablet-like display, a new center console, a new shifter, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, and premium audio systems with up to 19 speakers. Though it made no mention of it, Audi must have repositioned the rear seat, as the 2017 Allroad loses 9.8 cubic feet of cargo room with the seats up, putting it at 17.8 cubes, but its max cargo capacity jumps by 2.8 cubic feet to 53.3 cubes.
The Allroad’s front suspension also gets an overhaul for the 2017 model year. Up front is a new five-link system that includes a new mix of materials to help save a total of 26.5 pounds. This new suspension also gives the Allroad an extra 0.9 inches of ride height when compared to last year’s model. The Audi Drive Select system allows the driver to customize the suspension settings with the push of a button. New to the Drive Select system for 2017 is the “off-road” mode.
Audi has remained mum on what engines will power the U.S.-spec 2017 Allroad, but it did mention that the European model will carry diesel and gasoline engines ranging from 150 horsepower to 272 horsepower. There will also be three transmissions available, including a six-speed manual, a new S tronic seven-speed auto, and a redesigned version of its existing eight-speed auto.
U.S. pricing is unknown at this time, as is its U.S. release date. Audi did announce that the A4 Allroad will hit dealers in Europe in the summer of 2016 at a starting price of €44,750 ($48,773). Given typical trends, the 2017 Allroad should hit U.S. showrooms a few months after its European release at around $44,000. Stay tuned for more details.
