Last year, Audi released the redesigned 2017 R8 to the world. Sure, it wasn’t an insane overhaul, but it had all he styling changes it needed and a new base powertrain. Today, in preparation for its arrival on dealer lots, Audi has released the 2017 R8’s price tag.

The 2017 Audi R8 will come in just a pair of setups. The base model will now be the R8 V10 and the uprated model will be the R8 V10 Plus. The former will run a cool $162,900, making it a whopping $47,000 more than the base model in the last generation. Then again, that price hike is mostly due to the V-10 engine replacing the 4.2-liter V-8, and the fact that the seven-speed S tronic transmission is now standard. Apples to apples, the base 2017 R8 V10 is the same price as the 2015 R8 V10 with the S tronic transmission.

Opting for the more powerful R8 V10 Plus pushes the base price up to $189.900, making it $7,400 more than the 2015 R8 V10 Plus with the S tronic transmission.

Not only did Audi replace the 4.2-liter V-8 engine with a V-10, but this 5.2-liter powerplant also received a boost for the new model year. In its new form, this engine jumps from 525 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of twist to 540 horses and 398 pound-feet. The Plus model also got an increase from 550 ponies and 398 pound-feet to a mighty 610 horses and 413 pound-feet.

This output gets the base model to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and up to a top speed of 199 mph, making it 0.1 seconds slower to 60 mph than a similarly equipped R8 V10 but 4 mph faster in top speed. The V10 Plus model hits 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and tops out at 205 mph – 0.1 seconds quicker and 8 mph faster than the 2015 R8 V10 Plus with the S tronic transmission.

In addition to more power, the R8 gets a nice weight drop for the new generation. Thanks to the use of 13 percent carbon-fiber materials and a lightweight chassis, the base model is 88 pounds lighter than its 2015 equivalent and the V10 Plus is 143 pounds lighter than in 2015.

Audi didn’t announce when the 2017 R8 would hit showroom floors, but given it has already replaced the 2015 model on Audi’s Website, I suspect the wait won’t be too long.
