Tesla Will Make Another Roadster, Sometime

If you’re like me, you find the Tesla lineup to be okay, but not sporty enough. The Roadster was a great concept, but it wasn’t advanced enough to be “practical” as a fun car.

Elon Musk has hinted before that the Roadster would be revisited, and he’s reassuring us all once again. Just before Christmas, he took to Twitter and said the new version is “some years away.” Exactly what that means is anyone’s guess, but it doesn’t sound like we’ll be seeing a new Roadster concept anytime soon.

Another thing you can bet on is the new car not being based on a Lotus. Musk has said that move was made out of financial desperation. Now that Tesla is actually making money, it likely can afford to engineer a Roadster from the ground up.

Now everyone can start speculating about what the reworked Roadster will look like, and throw out some cool renderings while we all wait impatiently. After all, Tesla first has to fulfill all those Model 3 orders and start slapping solar panels that look like roof shingles on everyone’s house first.
