Audi Q8 Concept to Debut in Detroit
Audi’s Q lineup of crossover SUVs has been a big focus for the automaker as it continues to cater to the high demand in this segment. Recently, we’ve seen various Q models undergo complete redesigns, and we’ve also seen the debut of an all-new model in the Q2. Soon, the Q lineup will look to expand again, and we’ll get a preview of this expansion in Detroit.
At the 2017 Detroit Auto Show in January, Audi will debut the new Q8 Concept. This new range-topping crossover will battle the recent onslaught of luxury crossover coupes, like the BMW X4 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
If its teaser images are any indication, the Q8 will not have too dramatic of a coupe look, like the X4, X6 and GLE Coupe, but it’ll still feature the flat and wide C-Pillar, and raked rear glass. In addition to this feature, the Q8 will also have dynamic three-dimensional styling, flared shoulders above the wheels and a significantly wider Singleframe grille. Audi also mentions the concept will take many styling cues from the Ur-quattro concept in the 1980s.
Inside, this model will be a four-seater, and Audi claims it’ll be plenty roomy despite its coupe-ish roofline.
While Audi didn’t outright call attention to this concept’s powertrain, it’s easy to spot the “e-tron” logo on the front apron in the teaser images. This means this either has an advanced plug-in hybrid system of a full electric setup. We’ll learn more on this in Detroit.
For now, all we have to go off is Audi’s description and a pair of teaser images, which are actually pretty telling. Luckily, Audi will hold a press conference debuting this new crossover on Jan. 9, 2017 at 8 a.m. EST, so our wait for info will be brief.
Stay tuned for updates
