Nissan is up to something fairly big in the crossover segment, as it revealed a new teaser image that shows off a sporty-looking, people-hauling concept. The press release that accompanied the image didn’t divulge too much info either. The only thing of value that it mentioned was one line that read, “What if Nissan created a new way to feel driving excitement?”

While the press release was unsurprisingly nondescript, there are some rumors floating around that add some value to this teaser. One rumor in particular is that Nissan is reportedly considering turning the Z model into a sub-brand of its own, and within this sub-brand will be a crossover SUV.

While this remains just a rumor, the image sure does look like a sportier-than-normal crossover that could fit a Z sub-brand. What’s more, that one line from the press release leads me to believe that this will be a performance model of some sort.

The image only reveals the front end, but it does show off the aggressive boomerang headlights, the flared fenders, the aggressive bodylines, and the signature Nisan grille with what looks like a splitter underneath it. Just from the teaser alone, it is clear that this isn’t your typical soccer mom crossover.

Unfortunately, the image cuts off the back two-thirds of the crossover, so it is hard to imagine what’s doing back there. All I know is that if the backside looks as awesome as the front end, we are in for one hell of a sexy rig; one that may give Z fans enough reason to accept a crossover into their club.

Luckily, this mystery will be solved very soon, as this concept will bow at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, which kicks off on September 17th.

Stay tuned for all the details.
