Lincoln is working on rebuilding its image in the near future, and it began this with the recent announcement that the MKS sedan will disappear in 2016. We all expect a production version of the Continental Concept to replace the unpopular flagship sedan. Today, Lincoln has announced more changes, but unlike the elimination of the MKS, these are simply minor updates to its midsize SUV, the MKX.

Overall, the 2016 MKX will carry over completely unchanged, but there are a few very minor refinements. Lincoln made the cabin a bit more comfortable by adding foam to the wrapped sides of the center console, giving the front-seat occupants a comfortable spot to rest their knees. It also strengthened the dead pedal to give it a more solid feel. Finally, it added stainless-steel scuff panels to the doors and tailgate to help prevent unsightly scratches in the plastic.

The cabin also receives an optional Bridge of Weir Deepsoft leather option. This premium upholstery undergoes a 16-hour softening process to assure supreme comfort. Also available is a hand-sewn Wollsdorf leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Other small improvements include a redesigned center console, a two-button clamshell armrest that allows access to only the flocked storage or the main bin, reduced tolerances in fitment of the interior panels, and the use of genuine wood and metal components.

There is no mention of the drivetrain, so I assume this will carry over in 2016. This means that the only engine will be the 3.7-liter V-6 with 305 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. This engine will mate to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission that delivers power to the front wheels or all four wheels.

Pricing remains unknown, but expect a minor uptick from the 2015 model’s $38,900 base price in 2015 when it arrives later this year.
