Ford Armors Up The Police Interceptor

Ford’s helping to make sure that law enforcement is pretty well protected, at least if they’re taking cover in a Police Interceptor. Both the sedan and SUV version can withstand armor-piercing rounds fired by rifles, which is admittedly pretty impressive.

More specifically, the police vehicles achieve the US Department of Justice standard for Type IV, which protects against up to .30 caliber ammunition. Your average car would become Swiss cheese under that kind of an assault. Even most police vehicles don’t come close to offering that kind of protection.

You can see the test on a Ford Police Interceptor in the video below. The SUV gets shot up with all kinds of guns, which is pretty fun.

Ford makes the Police Interceptors to be pretty tough, because cops have a tough and dangerous job. They have a 75 mph crash test rating, plus suspensions that can handle hopping over curbs and taking other routine punishments.
