Last year, the Mazda6 received a healthy refresh, so we didn’t expect many changes to the 2017 model. Mazda confirmed its lack of change with the unveiling of the 2017 version of its midsize sedan recently.

Visually, the 2017 Mazda6 is identical to the 2016 model. Under the skin and in the features, however, things are a bit different.

The only mechanical change for the new year is the addition of Mazda’s new G-Vectoring Control. This system gives the driver a better feel for what the vehicle is doing in the corners and allows for enhanced cornering by reducing torque when entering a curve and restoring it when exiting the bend.

The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower remains the only engine (for now), but there are rumblings of the turbocharged 2.5-liter from the CX-9 making its way to the Mazda6’s lineup.

In addition to making it a little more controllable in the corners, Mazda also reduced the 6’s interior noise. It did so by way of tighter door seals and tolerances between body panels, adding new sound insulation, and a thicker windshield. On Grand Touring models, the sound deadening is intensified through the use of laminated front windows.

Inside, the new 6 gains a few bits of improvement. There is a new full-color Active Driving Display that uses a font that matches the rest of the 6’s fonts, a 4.6-inch, full-color TFT display in Grand Touring models, and available Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane-Keep Assist, and Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring.

Mazda expects to have the new 6 on dealer lots in September of 2016. Pricing has yet to be released.
