BMW Launches Brilliant Plan To Clobber The Tesla Model 3

Tesla’s about to get a firsthand lesson on what “the ultimate driving machine” really means. BMW has a brilliant plan to fight the Tesla Model 3, a car that’s already generated around 400,000 preorders.

I like Tesla, but I also have serious respect for BMW. Anyone who refers to the Bavarians as technological dinosaurs knows little about how the i3’s constructed. Like a good businessman, BMW is looking to capitalize on the strengths of the i3, reportedly applying certain features to an upcoming fully-electric version of the 3 Series.

When the BMW G20 hits the street, it’ll shed about 180 pounds versus the competition, according to CarBuzz. In fact, it’s supposed to have a more advanced chassis than the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Jaguar XE, showing that the Bavarians still know how to make a car with incredible handling characteristics.

Auto Express is saying the car will have a 90 kWh battery pack and will go about 300 miles on a charge. They’re not speculating on the electric motor, and nobody really is, so we’ll see about that.

Of course, there’ll be three-cylinder turbocharged versions of the G20, plus at least one hybrid option. BMW sees an opportunity to show it can beat Tesla at its own game. One thing’s for sure, the Bimmer will have a nicer interior, and that alone would be reason to consider it.
