The 2017 Ford F-150’s EcoBoost V-6 will Beat Up Your V-8

More details continue to emerge about the 2017 Ford F-150, and the latest information outlines its updated powertrain. According to Ford, its new, second-gen 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine will best many of the V-8 engines in its class.

In its second generation, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine’s output will jump by 10 horsepower and a whopping 50 pound-feet of torque thanks to new turbochargers, a new valvetrain, and a revised fuel system. This will put the new EcoBoost engine at 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. While the horsepower is stout, the torque is what really makes this engine awesome as it easy bests the 410 pound-feet cranked out by the Ram 1500’s 5.7-liter V-8 and the 460 pound-feet the Silverado 1500’s 6.2-liter produces.

In addition to beating out V-8s in its class, the second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine also beats out the torquey 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine in the Ram 1500 by a full 50 pound-feet.

Ford got a bit of flack when it released these boosted V-6 engines, but traditionalists can’t argue with these V-8-beating numbers.

In addition to the new turbo V-6, the 2017 F-150 will also gain a new, class-leading automatic transmission. This new gearbox has 10 ranges to play around with, assuring it is always in an ideal gear for towing, cruising, and everyday driving. This transmission will also likely pair well with the new EcoBoost engine’s standard start-stop technology to improve fuel economy.
