I have long taken issue with “luxury” pickups like Ford’s King Ranch and Platinum trucks because I just didn’t understand how someone could really use one of these as a true pickup. At around $60k, I would have to take my shoes off before saddling up out of fear I may ruin the carpet. Well, Ford must have read my mind as it’s solved that problem with the new Premium Vinyl option for the floors on its 2017 Super Duty King Ranch and Platinum models.

We’ve all seen the vinyl flooring on the base XL and XLT versions of the F-Series. They may not be the prettiest things going, but they are easy to hose out when you get them dirty. On the King Ranch and Platinum models, the concept is the same, but the vinyl will be tuned more for these premium trims. It will be a little thicker and better fitting than on the XL and XLT models, and it’ll have clips specifically for carpeted or all-weather floor mats.

According to Autoblog, this Premium Vinyl Floor option will run $115 on all King Ranch and Platinum models.

I think this is incredible on Ford’s behalf as I suspect I am far from the only one questioning the usefulness of these pricey pickups.

Ford plans to have the 2017 F-Series Super Duty pickups and their optional vinyl floors in stores in the fall of 2016.
