Tesla has poached Felix Godard, the interior designer for the Porsche Mission E, or the German brand’s upcoming electric car. That’s according to EV news site Electrek.

This is great news, since one of the California automaker’s weaknesses is interior design. Let’s face it: Teslas aren’t exactly known for having super attractive, revolutionary or plush cabins. They’re not bad, but they simply don’t match the tech that’s under the skin. Looks like that’s about to change in a big way.

If you examine the Porsche Mission E concept’s interior, it’s obvious that Goddard is a master at what he does. The environment is clean and modern, like what you’d expect to find in such a vehicle. At the same time it’s not sterile and cold. Instead, the design is actually pretty warm.

With the kind of assets and the innovative nature of Tesla behind him, maybe Goddard can see that the Model 3 gets something other than a blank slate for an interior. He should be able to cook up some breathtaking displays and trim pieces that would make the thing look like a polished work. Electrek points out that he’s credited for several instrument cluster, HUD and holographic display patents.

We know that the recent reveal of the Tesla Model 3 is only “Part 1.” Hopefully “Part 2” involves showing off an interior that excites.

Tesla certainly is in a design poaching mood these days. In March it snagged Mazda exterior designer WooTak Kim.
