For eight years, Ford has developed, donated, and auctioned aviation-inspired Mustangs to benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association youth education programs and this year is no exception. This year, the Ford team has dubbed this car the Apollo Edition, which pays homage to the Apollo space missions.

The team of engineers and designers started with a standard 2015 Ford Mustang GT and coated it in an exclusive Pure White and Pure Black paint scheme – both colors are not available on production cars. The team then added in a carbon-fiber front splitter, a rear diffuser, rocker moldings, and various accents, like the red mirrors and “USA” markings.

One very unique and out-of-the-box addition to this car is the orange under-car LEDs. These lights mimic the fiery glow of the landing capsule as it reenters the Earth’s atmosphere. Kudos to whoever thought of adding that, it is the perfect touch.

On top of looking downright awesome, the Mustang Apollo Edition also has a plethora of performance mods that make it unlike any other new Mustang GT. The engineers started with a Ford Performance supercharger kit and an X-pipe with side- and rear-exit exhaust, which push the 5.0-liter V-8 engine to 627 horsepower and 540 pound-feet of torque. That’s a 192-horsepower and 140-pound-feet gain over the standard GT.

Going fast is one thing, but you need agility too, and the Ford team was happy to oblige. They installed a sport-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes, and Forgiato 21-inch performance wheels to help in this department.

Inside the cabin, Ford continued with performance gauges, an exclusive instrument cluster, special sill plates, and embroidered seats, trim panels, and floor mats.

The auction will take place at the EAA Gathering of Eagles event on July 23, 2015.
