Once the Daily show on Comedy Central latches onto a current event, what follows will surely be a glorious takedown, which was exactly what Jon Stewart had in store for GM and its ignition recall scandal. Stewart recently went off about the whole recall fiasco, pointing out how ridiculous the entire thing is. First, though, he pointed out how Dan Akerson, the former CEO of GM, introduced his successor Mary Barra as he referred to her as “a car gal.” Stewart used the moment to point out what many say is rampant sexism in the auto industry. Naturally, many others have said Stewart was overreaching at that moment, since it is the equivalent to saying a man is a “car guy.”

Whether the use of the world “gal” is sexist or not, Stewart goes on to theorize that Barra was put into the CEO position to take the fall for the building controversy that GM brass apparently knew was going to boil over right around now.

Finally, Stewart gets to the heart of the matter, or the ignition recall itself. He builds up a case, showing just how negligent it appears GM was about the issue, knowing about it long ago but deciding to do nothing other than to warn vehicle owner to not use heavy keys in their vehicle. From there, he explores how inexpensive the fix is and contrasts that with the loss of life that has resulted from the vehicle defects. At that point, Stewart really begins to unload, even throwing in a reference to Jeffrey Dahmer, the notorious serial killer, at one point.

The tirade on The Daily Show highlights the growing impatience the public is demonstrating for GM as the investigation into the fault ignition reveals more incompetence and even corruption inside the company.
