Dodge More Than Doubles Hellcat Production

These are the best of times and the worst of times.

It’s the worst if you’re one of the unlucky souls who ordered a 2015 Dodge Hellcat model, because if you didn’t get a car, your order has been officially canceled by Dodge. Never fear, because the company has announced that production for the 2016 Hellcat models has been more than doubled, thanks to your clamoring for ridiculous amounts of power at a bargain price.

To say that Dodge has seen an incredible amount of success from dropping the supercharged Hellcat V-8 in the Challenger and Charger is a severe understatement. People lined up like crazy for the cars, while other versions of the vehicles flew off dealer lots at a brisk pace. The media also showered Dodge with a huge amount of attention, boosting the brand. Even people who tried to make fun of the guy who biffed it in his Challenger SRT Hellcat in a drag race versus the Tesla Model S helped highlight just how iconic the Hellcats have become in a short amount of time.

About those canceled orders, there is a silver lining. Dodge says that people who didn’t get their 2015 Hellcat will get a discount on a 2016 model.

Dodge has also announced a few little changes to the 2016 Hellcats. While mechanically nothing has been updated, the interiors have been tweaked. The Challenger and Charger both come with standard Laguna Leather upholstery, HD Radio, an 8.4-inch Uconnect system, plus a five-year subscription to SiriusXM Travel Link and SiriusXM Traffic.

The 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is still the most powerful muscle car ever made, thanks to the 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque bellowing out from under the hood. NHRA has also certified it as the fastest production muscle car with a quarter mile time of 11.2 seconds using the stock Pirelli P Zero tires. The 2016 Charger SRT Hellcat is the most powerful, fastest and quickest production sedan in the entire world. It runs the quarter mile in 11.0 seconds on its stock tires.
